In lieu of invites, I sent a gift box to my closest friends and family last year as a sort of long-distance wedding celebration. As much as Michael and I would have wanted to organize an event that the people in our lives could attend, our priority was to start a life together. During our four-year relationship, most of it was spent in long-distance due to Michael’s internships and the pandemic, so during our reunion last year we dived into the possibility of closing the distance for good. Long months of waiting and preparing for an expensive, though meaningful, gathering didn’t have the strongest appeal.
